The research undertaken within the Hub focuses on specific areas that cut across policy and socio-economic systems. These include key technical programmes such as hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, PEM fuel cells, and solid oxide fuel cells/electrolysers, but also safety, education and training. Ultimately, these are integrated in a research synthesis work package. This research is undertaken both through the hub’s core research programme, led by prominent scientists exploring each topic (also comprising the management board), and the flexible funding programme that enables the expansion of the research base beyond that of the core research programme.
